Dear readers,
I am sending you warmth, comfort and balance as the light draws in. This is the time of year for woollen socks, leaf-crisp walks and many, many cups of tea! (There is one by my desk as I type!) Two of my best friends are Libras. Cosy, warm people who bring balance and comfort to my world! I wrote this poem for those two special women…
Woollen Socks
There is a certain comfort in woollen socks on An October evening as the light is drawing in Autumn coloured, slouched around the ankle Not new or fancy, but warm and familiar Like that friend who knows your story And remembers the parts you have forgotten. Sitting across the table, laughing You catch sight of that teenage girl For a moment. Would we rather those days again? Knee socks and Tartan skirts, school bags slung over one shoulder Reading Cosmo and playing grown-ups As we navigated discos and high school politics, So sure and so unsure Of who we were and where we were headed, But weren’t we gorgeous! What would we tell those girls if we sat with them now? Mind you, they probably wouldn’t listen to old women Banging on about woollen socks and old friends And the extraordinary way they will always Give you comfort
‘Sometimes it feels as though our younger self is not that far away and if we reached our hand out, we could almost touch her cheek’
What wisdom you would share with your younger self?
Do you think your younger self would listen?!
What a splendid poem. 👌 I enjoy your work!
Here's one back:

Sorry, this is not the same season as yours!! The above is a forthcoming haiku of mine
